Message from Commander Frank C. Kusiowski Jr.

I am honored to serve as your AMVETS Department of Tennessee Commander. Thank you for your confidence in me to lead our great organization.

Our motto “Veterans Serving Veterans” defines our organization and we should be proud of what we do and have done. We may have hung up our uniforms, but we continue to watch over our brothers, sisters, and our communities. We must always continue with this mission.

Projects such as building wheelchair ramps, installing handicap railings, providing transportation to the VA or a doctor’s appointment, assisting in filing VA claims, providing food and shelter, or just talking with a veteran who needs somebody to listen to. It is not important how big or small the need is, it is that we are there for them when needed.
Technology continues to evolve, and we must keep pace with the changing times to remain relevant. Communication with our membership and potential members is critical for us to recruit and retain them. The information out there we can research is unlimited. Filling forms out online speeds the process up when submitting claims among other things are beneficial to us all. Do not be scared to use the computer, just protect your information.
The AMVETS Department of Tennessee is truly a family, and it includes our Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of AMVETS. Our mission is to serve our veterans and communities. When talking to a potential member this should be an important part of your discussion.
Community involvement must be a priority for each post to spread the Amvets name. The needs may differ in each area across our state, but our involvement is important no matter where we live. Our Americanism, Pocket Constitution, ROTC/JROTC, and Scouting programs are important to educate our youth in their civic and patriotic responsibilities. Let your communities know who you are and that we are there to help in any way we can.

My vision for the coming year for our department is to grow our membership, increase the number of posts across the state, become more visible in our communities by increasing community service hours, expand on our youth programs and most importantly take care of each other when needed my brothers and sisters.

I am always available to assist the membership or any potential member. You can contact me by email at: amvetstn.commander@gmail.com or by phone at 615-918-0550.
